Another Flush in the Pan

A tincture of song and laughter administered by Medical Maelstrom

If you were not at St Uny C.of E. Academy, Carbis Bay, on the evening of the 29th November you missed a treat! Doctors Michele Sharkey, Sam Freegard and Anthony Seddon administered a tincture of Song and Laughter to a large number of ‘patients’ in order to raise funds for the provision of toilet facilities at St Uny church.

The programme reminded us all that a tincture (noun) was a medicine made by dissolving a drug in alcohol and Maelstrom’s tincture was a medical cocktail infused with the collective inspiration of Marriott Edgar, Pam Ayres, Dillie Keane, Adèle Anderson, Michael Flanders, Donald Swann, Richard Stilgoe, Peter Skellern, Ronnie Barker, and given a thorough shaking by Medical Maelstrom … hopefully all patients had consumed the alcohol before the performance as tickets included a free glass of wine. The humour of SaM Freegard, interspersed with the beautiful voice of Michele Sharkey and the musicality of Anthony Seddon certainly drove away all Brexit Blues for the evening!!

With such a wide variety of entertainment ranging from Sam’s ‘Kernow Cuisine’ to Michele’s rendition of ‘My ain folk’ and Anthony’s musical accompaniment interspersed with duets and trios, there was a danger of some side-splitting leading to tears of laughter. The fellowship during the interval and after the performance was a delight for all, with the meeting up of many old friends. St Uny certainly lost out when Sam and Maggie Freegard moved from Lelant to the Lizard!

The evening was a resounding success and raised some £2,000 which should certainly put several flushes in the pan!

Thanks also go to the School for use of the hall, all the helpers and sound engineers who contributed to the evening’s success.
